Research Programmes Admission Guide
Students are required to pursue an independent but supervised research on an approved topic based on which a thesis must be submitted for examination. Students are also required to attend classes and pass the examinations.

Admissions Eligibility
Applicants must have Bachelor's degree with minimum Honours (Distinction) and its equivalent and the ability to pursue research in the candidate's proposed field of advanced study.
Required Test Score
A valid GRE/GMAT score is required for applicants who are not graduates of the Autonomous Universities in Singapore, unless there is specific requirement stated in the School's website for the respective programme. Test dates must be within 5 years or less from the date of your application.
Applicants from India may use the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering [GATE] score of at least 90th percentile in place of GRE. Test date must be within 3 years or less from the date of your application.
For applicants whose native language is not English, a good TOEFL score is required. Test dates must be within 2 years or less from the date of your application. IELTS may be submitted in place of TOEFL.
A copy of GRE/GMAT/TOEFL/IELTS test scores should be attached to the application.
In light of the post-Covid-19 pandemic, we have implemented revised requirements for admission test scores. It is important to note that we will exclusively accept the following online tests for admission. Additionally, these tests must have been taken no later than 31 December 2023. Test report reflecting date beyond 31 December 2023, will not be eligible to meet admission requirements.

Candidature Periods
For higher degrees by research, candidates may be admitted as full-time or part-time students. The minimum and maximum periods of candidature for both full-time and part-time are as follows:

Students will pay fees at non-subsidised rates if they exceed the maximum candidature period as stated in the above tables.

Application PeriodThere are two intakes each year - August or January. Applicants are advised to submit their application before the last day of submission for the desired intake.

Supporting DocumentsYou must upload electronic copies of your supporting documents to the application portal. Documents uploaded must be in English. Otherwise, they must be accompanied by certified translations in English language. An application fee of S$54 (inclusive of GST) will be charged for each Research application. Commencing from the AY2024 semester 1, which begins on 1 October 2023, the application fee for each Research application will be revised to S$50 (Net). To gain a comprehensive understanding of the financial obligations throughout your postgraduate education at NTU, it is crucial to consider various cost factors. In addition to the Tuition fees and Miscellaneous fees applicable to full-time programmes, it is essential to account for the estimated cost of living, as outlined below.
