Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) are pleased to celebrate the completion of renovations to the ADM Gallery with its soft launch exhibition, Family Portrait: Collected Works from NTU and NIE, Singapore.
After several years of planning and many months of construction, ADM now has a professional, climate–controlled exhibition facility designed to meet high international museological standards. The gallery has been fitted with advanced systems such as museum track lighting and climate–controls to safely present sensitive and valuable works of art. This enables the ADM Gallery to host exciting contemporary art exhibitions by professional artists from Singapore, Southeast Asia, and beyond.
The upgraded ADM Gallery has also incorporated state-of-the-art audio and video equipment. These facilities allow it to be transformed from the familiar “white cube” gallery, into a “black box” for performances, video projections,
and interactive multi-media installations, making ADM Gallery a unique, high–tech creative space in Singapore. The ADM Gallery will be a creative hub where art, science and technology meet. An inspirational source for NTU students, it will also
engage and support our faculty and their research, and strengthen the arts community on campus and in Singapore.
The new ADM Gallery will be joining an exciting and creative "art family" at the Yunnan Garden campus that includes, The Art Gallery at NIE, the NTU Museum, The Innovation Centre, and the Centre for Asian Art and Design. Family Portrait: Collected Works from NTU and NIE, Singapore has
been organized not only to provide viewers with a look at the newly upgraded gallery, but also to draw attention to the art institutions here on campus, their engaging programming activities, and the exciting works of art held in their collections.
With this goal in mind, ADM Gallery has borrowed works of art from the NTU Museum and the NIE art collection, as well as excellent works from private collectors at NTU. Although they prefer to remain anonymous, private collectors have graciously adorned
our workspaces at NTU with art works from their personal collections. We wish to gratefully acknowledge the key works they have loaned to the exhibition.
Following the soft launch exhibition, ADM Gallery will be preparing for its grand opening exhibition in September 2012. For this occasion, the gallery has engaged renowned art historian and curator, T.K. Sabapathy as guest curator to organize an exhibition of Southeast Asian contemporary art.
We invite you to please join us in the celebrations in September. Until then we trust you will enjoy the Family Portrait: Collected Works from NTU and NIE, Singapore and the opportunity to be the first visitors to experience the new ADM Gallery.
