NTU, School of Art, Design and Media – Singaporean filmmaker and ADM Alumni Nelson Yeo’s debut feature film DREAMING & DYING has won two top awards at the Locarno Film Festival.

The film premiered at the prestigious A-listed International Film Festival Locarno (Aug 2 to Aug 12, 2023), and won the ‘Filmmakers of the Present’ – Golden Leopard (Pardo d’oro Cineasti del presente) award and ‘Swatch First Feature Award’ (Prize for Best First Feature).

This was the first time a South East Asian film, a Singaporean writer and director and most importantly, an NTU School of Art Design and Media alumni has won two of the most prestigious prizes at the Locarno Film Festival.

The Concorso Cineasti del presente section focuses on first and second feature films, mostly world premieres, written and directed by emerging global talent.

Dreaming & Dying is an imaginative poetic drama about three middle-aged friends on a short trip, meeting for the first time since years. Things take an unexpected turn when something from their past comes to the surface.

The film stars Doreen Toh, Peter Yu, and actor Kelvin Ho and is produced by Singapore’s Momo Film Co, with Tan Si En and Sophia Sim as producers.
