The globe trotter

With SBS, I did my exchange at…

Lund University in Sweden. I wanted to explore places outside of Asia, and Sweden was a popular choice among Seniors who went on Exchange. Lund is a small University town in the Skåne (South Sweden), near Denmark, so I thought that it might be warmer than in Stockholm or Uppsala.

During exchange, I travelled to…

Several countries in Europe, mostly with friends! We explored other Scandinavian countries, like Norway and Iceland. We’ve also been to the other popular cities like London, Paris, and Amsterdam. I’d also been on some solo trips to Eastern and Central Europe.

One of my most memorable experiences on exchange…

We managed to catch the breath-taking sight of the Northern Lights dancing in the sky in Norway.

I had the opportunity to do my final year project overseas at…

Harvard University. The lab that I was working in was interested in the pathway behind cardiomyocyte (heart muscle cell) proliferation. My project focused on cardiac regeneration where I investigated gene types that encouraged regeneration in mice hearts using a special cell cycle marker called FUCCI.

I chose to do my final year project at Harvard University because…

Biological research in the USA is cutting-edge and I was curious about working in a lab there. Known for academic excellence, Harvard has attracted many top-notch scientists in the field of regenerative biology. Hence, I decided that it would be an enlightening experience to learn science from the best, in the historic yet modern city of Boston.

I chose to join SBS because…

I have always been interested in science, particularly, biology. When it came to choosing majors for university, biology and life sciences were naturally among my top choices and SBS provided a comprehensive research programme.

My favourite class in SBS would be…

Physiology, a Year 2 module that most SBS students would take. It was interesting to learn about different diseases and their relevant biological pathways when we were still relatively fresh in university.

Fun fact about SBS…

My favourite thing about the school is probably the SBS lobby because its windows always let in light on a sunny day!
