Top Proposal Award in McGill International Portfolio Challenge 2020
Name of the competition: McGill International Portfolio Challenge (MIPC)
About the competition: MIPC is a global challenge that aims to bring together the world's brightest students to Montreal to help solve some of the largest, most complex societal issues in the lens of long-term investment. In its 4th edition, MIPC 2020 attracted a total of 93 teams from 18 countries, competing for C$50,000 in cash prizes. This year's theme focused on how large institutional asset managers can address rising protectionism and social inequalities through innovative portfolio strategies.

Product: The team proposed a portfolio allocation strategy for a fictitious UK sovereign wealth fund. This sovereign wealth fund aims to revitalise the UK economy, and generate social impact for UK citizens.
Description: The portfolio allocation strategy used a clear top-down approach which comprises 3 pillars - 1) International Portfolio Group focuses on active management of public markets for financial returns ; 2) Infrastructure Group creates co-investment opportunities for UK infrastructure in green renewables, 5G etc and 3) Enterprise Development Group invests and grows local SMEs and promising start-ups. The team's three-pronged strategy was not just good for one dimension but a positive impact on every aspect of every pillar. It aims to build a resilient and transformative UK that leaves no one behind.
