Name of the competition: Medical Grand Challenge (MGC) 2022
About the competition: Organised by Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, the Medical Grand Challenge is a student-led medical innovation. It aims to encourage students to form interdisciplinary teams and come together to identify and address unmet healthcare needs. Students of the 11th REP cohort, together with medical students and students from other disciplines, worked collaboratively across months to develop innovative medical solutions for real-world healthcare issues.

Achievement: 1st Place and 1st Runner-up (Open Category)
Prize: $20,000 (1st Place) and $15,000 (1st Runner-up)

Description: Team Vitality & Co’s project, STDetect, focuses on curbing the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in Southeast Asia. It does so by providing anonymous accessible and affordable STD testing for patients.
Team North Hill Institute worked with a medical start-up, StratifiCare, to analyse a colorectal cancer biomarker with potential prognostic and predictive capabilities. The team also assessed the market demand and developed an expansion plan to introduce this technology to the market.
