A high-level NTU delegation comprising NTU President Prof Subra Suresh, Pro-Chancellors Mr Chandra Das, Mr Othman Haron Eusofe and Ms Jennie Chua, NTU Chairman Koh Boon Hwee and six Trustees including Mr Goh Sin Teck, Mr Inderjit Singh and Ms Lien Siaou-Sze, visited the Alibaba Group headquarters in Hangzhou on 6 September. Alibaba is NTU’s partner in a joint research institute on artificial intelligence and also has a talent programme for postgraduates.

At the Alibaba Executive Centre, the NTU delegation gained a greater understanding of the e-commerce and technology giant’s history, current operations and corporate social responsibility efforts. Among its many initiatives, as of April 2019, 500 million Alipay users have contributed to the planting of 100 million trees in China, as part of Alibaba’s efforts in making China a greener place.

The visit, hosted by Alibaba Vice Presidents Drs Jin Rong, Hua Xiansheng and Jia Yangqing, rode on the strong collaboration ties between the two organisations. NTU and Alibaba will continue in their efforts to research and develop technology for the good of society.
