A wave of reunions and new memories

NTU Singapore organised its largest Alumni Homecoming since the pandemic on 19 October. Held at The Wave, 2,000 alumni and their guests explored the campus and brought home new memories of them on the campus.

Alumni in Singapore and abroad returned to campus for the annual Alumni Homecoming. They reconnected with friends and professors, and witnessed the progress of the university campus.

NTU President Professor Ho Teck Hua and NTU Vice President for Lifelong Learning and Alumni Engagement Professor Boh Wai Fong met alumni from NIE.

Hear from our alumni who enjoyed the gathering:

Nanyang Business School alumnus Lye Fook Kong (bottom row, 2nd from right), who currently heads an insurance firm in Shanghai, returned to campus after 30 years for the 1994 Insurance specialisation class reunion. He was filled with pride after visiting the newer buildings on campus. He said, “They reminded me of the university’s amazing progress and its evolvement along with the times.”
Sim Teong Chuan, an alumnus of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering who runs a coffee roasting business, flew in from Penang with his wife and young daughter to join the celebration. "I attend alumni events regularly to stay connected with fellow alumni entrepreneurs," he said.
Computer engineering alumnus Jimmy Low returned to the campus after 31 years. He shared, “I am glad to attend today’s Homecoming event. The campus feels like a completely different place. When I visited Hall 2 where I stayed at as a student, I remember the camaraderie we shared as students.”

The event provided alumni with an opportunity to take in the sights of the beautiful campus through the open-top bus tour, and to join in carnival booths and interesting workshops. For one, NTU Library showed attendees what it is like to use a typewriter and explained to them the evolution of the multimedia medium.

There were a host of family-friendly activities, including a magic show by alumnus Kai Emmanuel Kuah (WKWSCI/2024), whose tricks captivated the crowd.

Alumnus Faris Iskandar (MAE/2018) who owns an aviation coaching school brought a flight simulator which drew a steady line of attendees eager to take to the skies virtually.

Creative alumni took part in an Augmented Reality filter photo contest and won for themselves an exclusive Lyon plushie keychain.

Sporty alumni played at the inter-school badminton friendly matches where the Nanyang Business School won top honours. The crowd also joined in a stretching exercise segment led by fitness trainer Lucas Lim (NIE/2015).

Other than performances by NTU student clubs, DJ Desmond Sim (CEE/2003) played catchy tunes that jazzed up the carnival vibe.
