ADL+: A Digital Toolkit For Cognitive Assessment And Intervention

Abstract

In this project, we designed and developed the ADL+ toolkit, which is the world’s first digitalized toolkit for longitudinal cognitive monitoring and intervention for delaying the onset of dementia. It combines behavioral analytics with gamified cognitive training and provides timely and personalized interventions.

Despite the impact of the COVID pandemic, the team and partners worked together to overcome the challenges and have successfully conducted the large-scale study, involving 77 control participants, and 75 intervention participants in 9 community centers. This is by far the largest longitudinal study in Asia that employs AI technologies for the assessment and intervention of dementia. The intervention participants demonstrated more significant improvements in cognitive performances, especially the attention and processing speed domains, and in quality of life compared to the control participants. The experts and end-users have evaluated the toolkit positively for both its design and usability. The toolkit is also shown to reduce consultation time per participant by about 11%.

The ADL+ toolkit paves the way to large-scale longitudinal cognitive wellness monitoring. In the future, the team will seek funding sources to continue the study of the toolkit and expand the collaborations with community partners for deployment so that a larger senior population can benefit from it.
