About the event:

Tephrochronology uses discrete layers of tephra (volcanic ash) to create a chronolological framework. It's applications are multiple, such as to reconstruct the number, timing and magnitude of eruptions, as well as to synchronise and date  geological events that impact the local and regional ecology, human and climatic history. It is unfortunately underutilized in Southeast Asia, despite the wealth of volcanoes, archaeological sites, and hominid remains.

Our expert speakers will share their findings and best practices, and instigate region-wide collaboration. We hope to train the new generation of Earth scientist and promote the use of tephrostratigraphy in this part of the world.
