Mr Shafie Shamsuddin is Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director & Digital Transformation Officer of Aeon Retail (Malaysia). AEON Co. Ltd is the biggest retailer in Japan with a revenue of about US$80b. It has more than 550,000 employees worldwide and is currently present in 14 countries.
Mr Shamsuddin is also Independent Non-Executive Director of Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), the principal marketing arm of PETRONAS listed on the Main Board of Bursa Malaysia. He is a board member of JTC Corporation, a Singapore state-owned real estate company and statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. Mr Shamsuddin is also a member of the NBS Alumni Advisory Board since 2014.
After graduated from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Mr Shamsuddin joined Carrefour Singapore as a management trainee. At the age of 35, he became the first Asian CEO of Carrefour in the company history. He has led Carrefour in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, and was also based in Paris as Executive Director of Global Talent Management and Organisational Development with Carrefour Group. Mr Shamsuddin has over 20 years of extensive industry experience in human capital development and the consumer goods industry in the ASEAN region.
Mr Shamsuddin has lead as the CEO of Trans Retail for more than 6 years in the first phase of transformation from Carrefour Indonesia to Transmart. Transformation was done from a hypermarket business model into an evolving lifestyle taste of the middle income population. As at the end of June 2019, Transmart has grown the number of stores from 83 (400,000 sqm) to 130 (750,000 sqm). By end of 2018, revenue has grown and EBITDA is at a double digit %. Throughout the past 6 years, Mr Shamsuddin has made significant progress in the leadership development towards the readiness of human capital beyond digital.
