Real estate Group Director embarks on his ESG journey with Sustainable Finance course

1. What motivated you to enroll in the Certificate Programme in Sustainable Finance?

With a Doctorate in Business Administration, I lecture on real estate related courses and hold the position of Group Division Director with ERA Singapore. The Nanyang Business School’s Certificate Programme in Sustainable Finance is not only a professional milestone for me, but also a personal journey of growth and self-discovery as I always wanted to embark on a journey in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance).

2. How has the programme impacted your understanding of sustainable finance principles and practices?

The course has deepened my knowledge and enabling me to conduct courses to share the importance of green finance for real estate. It has reinforced my belief in the power of green finance as a force for good, and inspired me to advocate for responsible investment practices to avoid green washing.

3. How has the programme helped you navigate the evolving landscape of sustainable finance regulations and standards?

In a world where sustainable finance is gaining momentum, my participation in the Certificate Programme in Sustainable Finance by Nanyang Business School has been a pivotal journey of growth and knowledge acquisition. This course has equipped me with the tools and insights necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of sustainable finance and make a positive impact in real estate arena.

4. Can you share any specific examples of how you've applied the knowledge gained from the programme in your professional role?

Through the course, I gained a deeper understanding of ESG and their impact on investment decisions such as sustainable capital markets, and sustainable debt markets. This knowledge has not only enhanced my skills but has also empowered me to contribute meaningfully to creating a more sustainable future.

And through this transformative experience, I have honed my ability to conduct training in the arena of Singapore Green Plan 2030.

5. What aspects of the programme did you find most valuable or insightful?

The five-full day course has enabled me to make informed decisions and drive positive change in the financial sector. The programme has not only broadened my horizons in environmental and social responsibility through financial practices, but also expanded my business network.

6. What advice would you give to professionals considering enrolling in the Certificate Programme in Sustainable Finance?

I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to deepen their knowledge in green finance. The lecturers and industry trainers were all very knowledgeable and the discussion from the ground up with fellow participants were also very insightful.

The programme is jointly developed by NTU and UN Global Compact Network Singapore, and in collaboration with leading industry practitioners in the sustainable capital and debt market fields. 

It helps you to understand the fundamentals of sustainable finance, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) metrics and reporting frameworks, responsible investment strategies and their impact on environment, business and society.
