NBS undergraduates Kok Xuan Liang (Yr 2, ACC), Toni Miharja (Yr 3, BCG), Kimberly Lee Yen Ling (Yr 3, ACC) and Keith Looi Jie Yang (Yr 2, ACC) emerged champions at the national finals of Deloitte Singapore Risk Intelligence Challenge 2018.

The team, who calls themselves “Team Nextspace”, bagged the top prize of $3000.

“It was an eye-opening experience as we learned to apply various risk methodologies on an actual case study. Also, presenting to a panel of industry experts allowed our team to glean high-level insights and perspectives,” Keith said.

Xuan Liang said, “We have been updating ourselves with the latest trends in the risk sector. We feel that this will allow us to be more equipped with the relevant knowledge to apply to our strategy in the finals.”

The team will progress to compete in the ASEAN finals on 14th July and preparation work is ongoing.

Our Year 2 NBS undergraduates fought well against teams from other countries at the Singapore Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge 2018. Through this competition, they have learnt a lot about risk management, public speaking and networking skills.

Another group of NBS undergraduates did the school proud too.

Livia Rachmad (Yr 2, BUS), Lynette Lim (Yr 2, BUS), Priscilla Ho Hui Jun (Yr 2, BUS) and Vernice Teo (Yr 2, BUS) from the Bachelor of Business programme participated in the Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge 2018, held in San Antonio (USA).

They presented a risk management programme based on a company’s case study to a panel of risk management professionals in the finals and came in third.

Lynette said, “We were pleasantly surprised by the results. It was unexpected given our lack of experience in the area of risk and insurance management.”

“We were also not very confident initially but our confidence grew as we moved on to the subsequent stages of the challenge,” she added.

For the past eight months, the team had to juggle between their studies and this competition. During their free time, the team spent a lot of time and effort to understand various risk management terms and research on the case study.
