From Student to Leader: Prof. Goh Kim Huat’s Lifelong Connection to NBS

Prof. Goh Kim Huat embodies what it means to be part of Nanyang Business School (NBS) – a story of growth, transformation, and lifelong learning. From his days as an NBS accountancy  undergraduate to his current role as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, Prof. Goh has not only built an impressive career but also left a meaningful impact on students and colleagues alike.

A Journey of Transformation

Looking back on his undergraduate years, Prof. Goh recalls how they set the stage for his personal and professional growth. Starting as an accountancy student, he quickly realised his passion for information systems, pivoting to a path that would lead to a successful career in IT and business analytics.

Even during the challenging dot-com crash, Prof. Goh’s resilience helped him navigate uncertain times and come out stronger. When he returned to NTU, he discovered his passion for teaching and mentoring, a calling that allowed him to share his lessons and insights with future generations.

Known for his empathetic teaching style, Prof. Goh connects with students on a personal level, whether they are undergraduates exploring data analytics or senior executives tackling leadership challenges in the Executive MBA (EMBA) programme.

“Teaching isn’t just about delivering knowledge,” he explains. “It’s about understanding students’ journeys and helping them move forward.”

One of his proudest moments came with the MBA Class of 2020, who graduated in the midst of the global pandemic. “Their resilience and adaptability were truly inspiring,” he shares, reflecting on their determination to succeed despite extraordinary circumstances.

The Power of Lifelong Learning
As an EMBA instructor, Prof. Goh sees firsthand how education can transform lives at every stage of one’s career. EMBA participants often bring decades of professional experience, but they leave the programme with fresh perspectives, global exposure, and renewed energy.

“It’s about pausing to reflect, recharge, and build connections beyond your immediate circles,” he says, emphasising the value of stepping back to move forward.

Continuing the NBS Connection
For Prof. Goh, an NBS education is just the beginning. He encourages alumni to stay curious and connected by attending events, mentoring students, or supporting initiatives like the Equal Opportunity Fund

“Every contribution strengthens the NBS community,” he says, “and keeps the spirit of growth and collaboration alive.
