NTU Decarbonisation Forum
The Forum features multi-stakeholder dialogues that bring together investors, industry professionals, and regulators to discuss the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors in ASEAN.
Hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Finance Innovation (CSFI), the inaugural NTU Decarbonisation Forum took place on 27 August 2024 at NTU Singapore’s Nanyang Business School, aiming to accelerate decarbonisation efforts in the ASEAN region. This
Forum marked the culmination of several months of working group discussions, featuring representatives from companies such as UOB, Amundi, and RESET Carbon.
The working groups focused on two key industries: textiles and apparel, and buildings. Together, these sectors account for an estimated 25% to 33% of global CO2 emissions. Both are crucial in addressing the decarbonisation challenge in ASEAN, especially
as the region emerges as a major manufacturing hub and experiences increased building activity driven by rising living standards.
To connect various stakeholder perspectives, the working groups combined their experiences to screen and evaluate existing decarbonisation solutions for their respective industries. They discussed the barriers to adopting and scaling these solutions.
By addressing both the solutions and obstacles, the working groups developed targeted recommendations, which were further explored during panel discussions at the Forum.
Featuring leading experts from industry, finance, and academia, the Forum also discussed new financial innovations such as carbon contracts-for-difference and transition credits, which could complement the other recommendations.
The Forum provided an in-depth analysis of available market solutions and adaptation challenges, drawing on the diverse perspectives of its multidisciplinary participants.
