Edin In Iraq Soon To Break Ground!

The Eden in Iraq Wastewater Garden is a project to create a sustainable source of clean water through recycling waste water at a public site in Iraq, and was supported by both NTU and CAAD’s own Director Peer Sathikh. Assoc Prof Peer Sathikh was head of the Above Surface design team, while the project overall is co-led by the previous Visiting Professor at NTU ADM Meridel Rubenstein.

The site chosen was El Chibaish in the southern Iraq marshes. On September 4 2021, Eden in Iraq announced that after the political turmoil of the past years, which disrupted federal funding going to the project, Eden in Iraq is finally scheduled again to break ground.

The first stage of the project involves creating a surface flow wetland system that will begin the sewage treatment process. Eden in Iraq is happy to be working with the Centre for Restoration of Iraqi Marshes and Wetlands (CRIMW) on this project. CRIMW will be providing labour, machinery, and other engineering resources for the physical construction.
