China seeks access to Africa’s natural resources, particularly critical minerals like cobalt and lithium. That may be true. But what China really wants from Africa is political support in the international area as it competes for influence with the West. This was the thrust of a talk delivered by Eric Olander, Editor in Chief of the China Global South Project at NBS, a respected research and media outfit that looks at China’s role in the global south. Eric supported his theory with evidence explaining how the relationship between China and Africa has evolved over the years.

Over 40 NTU students, faculty, staff and the public attended the lecture. Among those attending were HE Charlotte Lobe, the High Commissioner of South Africa and HE Francisca Omayuli, High Commisoner of Nigeria.
