The two sides explored potential areas of cooperation including but not limited to research and knowledge exchange. Mr Jain briefed the delegation on the work of the Centre. Prof Kingsley sought to leverage the Centre’s expertise in delivering specific programmes at the ASG. The ASG, which is expected to be officially inaugurated later this year, aims to nurture a new generation of motivated and high integrity African leaders by providing world class public policy education.  The School, which is located in Kigali, was established as a Pan-African institution of higher learning in 2022 has the former Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Kishore Mahbubani on its Governing Board.

Prof Kingsley, a respected political economist has previously served the Central Bank of Nigeria as the Deputy Governor where he oversaw the rollout of the payment systems reforms, including the development and introduction of the unique identifier Bank Verification Number (BVN), that enabled the growth of a thriving Fintech industry in Nigeria. He also helped establish the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET) a public policy think tank focused on inclusive growth.

Francis Gatare, who was also part of the delegation advises President Paul Kagame on economic matters and has earlier served as the CEO of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB). During their visit the delegation saw the tamarind tree planted by President Kagame during his visit to the Nanyang Technological University in 2022 and undertook a short walking tour of the campus.
