NTU's First Blockchain Master's Orientation

NTU-CCTF Celebrates the Inaugural Orientation for the Master of Science in Blockchain Programme

The 26th of July, 2023, marked a significant milestone for Nanyang Technological University's Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance (NTU-CCTF) as it warmly welcomed the inaugural intake of students for its pioneering Master of Science in Blockchain Technology (MSBT) programme.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Wen Yonggang, Associate Vice President (Capability Building) of the President’s Office, Director of the NTU Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance, and the distinguished holder of the President’s Chair at the School of Computer Science and Engineering. Prof. Wen warmly welcomed the pioneering students and furnished them with a robust understanding of both the CCTF and the innovative Master of Science in Blockchain programme.

Subsequently, Prof. Boh Wai Fong, Deputy Dean of the College of Business (Nanyang Business School), the President's Chair in Information Systems, and Co-Director for the NTU Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance (CCTF), took the stage. Her discourse shed light on the myriad applications of blockchain in the world of business. As the Professor at the College of Business (Nanyang Business School) - Division of Information Technology & Operations Management, she also expressed her heartfelt welcome to the newest members of the academic fraternity.

Following that, Prof. Li Yi, MSBT Programme Director and Associate Director at the NTU Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance, alongside his role as Assistant Professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, elaborated on the program details. His presentation encompassed the curriculum's breadth and depth, academic calendar, faculty ensemble, and the nuances of student enrollment, course selection, and participation.In an effort to help new students quickly integrate into campus life, Assistant Professor Zhang Tianwei, the Associate Director of the Computational Finance Research Center at Nanyang Technological University and an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering, showcased the vibrant student club life at NTU and encouraged students to participate actively in blockchain community activities.As the orientation approached its culmination, Dr Tim Wu, the MSBT Capstone supervisor and a Senior Research Scientist at NTU, offered an encompassing overview of the Capstone project, underscoring the real-world application through collaborations with CCTF's industry partners.

A subsequent Q&A session proved invaluable, as it bridged any gaps in understanding and clarified doubts, with students actively engaging with their newfound academic mentors.The orientation ended with a relaxed networking tea session, providing an opportunity for students to engage in face-to-face interactions with faculty members and senior PhD students. This marked the official commencement of the academic journey for the inaugural batch of the MSBT programme at NTU.
