NTU-CCTF Welcomes New Students at 2024 Fall Master of Science in Blockchain Orientation

On July 31, 2024, the NTU Centre in Computational Technologies for Finance (NTU-CCTF) held its orientation for the new cohort of students enrolled in the Master of Science in Blockchain (MSBT) programme. The event took place at The Arc, Innovation Port, Nanyang Technological University.

The orientation began with a welcome speech from Prof. Wen Yonggang, who serves as Professor and President’s Chair at the College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS), Director of the NTU-CCTF, Dean of the Graduate College, and Associate Provost (Graduate Education) at the President’s Office, NTU. Prof. Wen highlighted the significant role of CCTF in advancing blockchain applications through both education and research, setting an inspirational tone for the day.

Prof. Boh Wai Fong, President’s Chair Professor of Information System, Co-Director of the NTU-CCTF, Director of the Information Management Research Centre (IMARC), and Vice President (Lifelong Learning & Alumni Engagement) at NTU, continued the momentum with a compelling discussion on the implications of blockchain in finance and its transformative potential across various sectors.

Next, Prof. Li Yi, Associate Professor at the College of Computing and Data Science, Programme Director of the Master of Science in Blockchain, and Associate Director of Education at NTU-CCTF, delivered a comprehensive briefing on the course structure. He emphasized the interdisciplinary approach and the practical learning modules, which are crucial for students to understand the curriculum and meet the academic expectations of the programme.

Prof. Zhang Tianwei, Assistant Professor at the College of Computing and Data Science and Associate Director of Research at NTU-CCTF, also addressed the students, sharing insights into the vibrant blockchain activities at NTU.

Dr. Teoh Teik Toe, Academic Director and Senior Lecturer, and Supervisor of the MSBT Capstone Project at NTU, introduced the Blockchain Innovation Project, highlighting the practical applications and collaborative opportunities it offers.

The orientation featured a student sharing session led by representatives from the MSBT 2023 Fall cohort: Huang Peicheng, Li Yumiao, and Ardhi Surya. They shared their experiences and insights, providing valuable perspectives to the new students.

The day concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, followed by a networking event and buffet dinner, where students mingled with faculty members and peers, fostering a collaborative atmosphere for their upcoming academic year.
