Topic
About the Seminar
Under the big data arena, various traffic modeling techniques and solution algorithms have been developed in recent years for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) with taking account of the second order (i.e. variance and covariance) of travel times.
In this presentation, an overview of recent development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in Hong Kong road network will firstly be given together with further extensions to reliability-based ITS. It will cover the challenges encountered for ITS development in Hong Kong, the provision of real-time road traffic information using limited available data from multiple sensor systems (on-line data) in combination with historical data (off-line data), and a prototype of reliability-based routing system with on-time arrival probability, etc.
The recent research work on deriving new methods and enhancement of ITS testbed will also be discussed together with the opportunities and challenges ahead. A book proposal on Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) will be briefly presented with focus on theories and practices.
