CML hosted American exchange students at National Chengchi University,Taiwan

We were honoured to host American exchange students at National Chengchi University in Taiwan, representing a diverse range of universities, including University of Minnesota, University of Washington, Brigham Young University, Hunter College of City University of New York, San Francisco State University, and University of North Georgia. As a key initiative for advancing Chinese language education in the U.S., the Program plays a vital role in cultivating globally competent individuals with advanced proficiency in Chinese. This event, hosted at Centre for Modern Languages, NTU, highlighted our dedication to fostering global connections and facilitating meaningful cultural and academic exchanges. It provided a valuable platform for students and educators to connect and collaborate, underscoring the importance of global partnerships in advancing language learning and cultural understanding.

Reflecting on my experience interacting with the Nanda students, I found it to be a truly enjoyable and enriching experience. Everyone was eager to share their ideas and engage in friendly conversations, which made the atmosphere welcoming and open.

It was an enriching experience to connect with them and share perspectives. I was able to understand what their university experience in America is really like—and it’s not all about the frat houses like I’ve seen in movies! I also shocked that some of the students even had a Taiwanese accent, which goes to show how our direct environment influences the way we pick up languages for the first time. Events like this foster mutual understanding and helps to convince others that Singapore does not only consist of Changi airport and not everyone is a Crazy Rich Asian. I look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and contribute.
