2019 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) Best Paper Award
Dr Hu Han (Former SCSE Research Fellow), Mr Huang Jian (Former SCSE Research Assistant) and Associate Professor Wen Yonggang (Associate Dean – Research, College of Engineering, NTU Singapore), together with their collaborators from Singapore and China, have won 2019 IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) Best Paper Award. The award was conferred by IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CAS) on May 28 2019 at 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (IEEE ISCAS19), Sapporo, Japan.
Their paper, titled “Joint Content Replication and Request Routing for Social Video Distribution Over Cloud CDN: A Community Clustering Method,” was published in the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (Volume:
26, Issue: 7, July 2016). It presents an optimized mechanism for social video replication and user request dispatching under the cloud content delivery network architecture to reduce the system operational cost. This research applies the learning-optimization
theory, proposed by Dr. Wen’s research group, in a specific application context. Specifically, using datasets crawled from a large-scale online social network, the proposed method leverages an unsupervised machine-learning algorithm to reveal
the social community effect in video consumption and propagation behavior. Insights from this research have led to an ingenious design of community-based cloud content delivery network (CCDN), which shows the superiority in the monetary cost reduction.
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT) is the top international periodical journal in the area of video and vision technology. It is ranked as No. 2 in the area of Multimedia under Google Scholar Citation Metrics. The journal
covers the circuits and systems aspects of all video technologies, including image/video acquisition, representation, presentation and display; processing, filtering and transforms; analysis and synthesis; learning and understanding; compression,
transmission, communication and networking; storage, retrieval, indexing and search; and/or hardware and software design and implementation. The Circuits and Systems for Video Technology Best Paper Award recognizes the best paper published in the
"Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology" publication. Each year, up to one paper is conferred with the honor, nominated and selected from all papers (more than 700 papers) published in this journal during the three calendar years
preceding the award.
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest technical professional society. With over 400,000 members in 150 countries, the organization is a leading authority on a wide spectrum of specializations ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics.
