2023 MIT Technology Review Innovators under 35 (Asia Pacific)

Congratulations to Asst Prof Liu Ziwei for receiving the Young Innovator Award – Pioneers category at the 2023 MIT Technology Review Innovators under 35 (Asia Pacific). He has been conferred the Young Innovator Award for his pioneering achievements in Generative AI.

Asst Prof Liu Ziwei has made several major breakthroughs in the field of AI-driven mixed reality technology in recent years. His team has built one of the most comprehensive multi-modal 4D human motion capture systems worldwide, providing a powerful tool for the field of virtual character motion design, animation production, and human-computer interaction. At the same time, the realistic generative and rendering technology based on large language models he developed has brought revolutionary changes to the fields of games, movies, and education. Meanwhile, his works have made substantial scientific contributions, being adopted in mainstream machine learning textbooks, and incorporated by major deep learning platforms like PyTorch and TensorFlow.

Asst Prof Liu is also the recipient of multiple prestigious awards, such as ICCV Young Researcher Award, CVPR Best Paper Award candidate, and International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS) Frontiers of Science Award. He believes that AI-driven mixed reality is both scientifically important and industrially desired. It is one of the most valuable scientific pursuits in developing real-word AI systems that better understand and meet both individual and societal needs.
