Celebrate SCSE30: 30th Anniversary Dinner – 9 Nov 2018
As part of the series of celebrations commemorating the ‘Celebrate SCSE30’ campaign, the school organised a 30th anniversary dinner at Raffles Marina Clubhouse on 9 November 2018. The occasion was graced by NTU President, Professor Subra Suresh as the Guest-of-Honour, accompanied by Vice President (Admin), Ms Tan Aik Na and Dean, CoE, Prof Louis Phee.

Guests indulged in the pre-dinner activities at the Atrium from 6.00-7.00pm, where cocktail was served and a fun photobooth was set up. Faculty and their teams put up an excellent showcase of their projects as well. The demo included the following projects:
- A Stereoscopic 3D First-Person-View Remote Driven Robotic Vehicle System by A/P Nicholas Vun
- Virtual Play in Reality by A/P Zheng Jianmin
- LVCSR Code Switch by A/P Chng Eng Siong
- Campus LoRA System by A/P Li Mo
- Fun-Knee Application by Prof Miao Chun Yan
The event continued at the Compass Ballroom at 7.00pm, with an opening address by Prof Miao Chun Yan, Chair, SCSE, followed by an address by the Guest of Honour, NTU President Professor Subra Suresh. The event was launched by NTU President, Dean, COE, VP (Admin), Chair, SCSE, VD (Res) and former Chairs of the school. A welcome toast led by Professor Subra Suresh started the evening on a high spirit.
The distinguished guests, staff, students and alumni had a sumptuous 8-course dinner treat while being entertained by various activities such as table games, an acapella performance by NTU Harmonix Club and a unique performance by our very own Assoc Prof Alexei Sourin, who mesmerised the guests with his creative musical instrument that functions by hand waves. NTU President volunteered to join him on stage to try his hand at making music, much to the guests’ delight.
The dinner concluded with a lucky draw segment presented by the Associate Chairs, Prof Tan Hwee (AC-Res), A/P Nicholas Vun (AC-Acad), A/P Goh Wooi Boon (AC-Faculty) and A/P Quek Hiok Chai (AC-Students). A total of 15 prizes such as a Dell laptop, Apple IPAD, Motorola hand phones, Lenovo Mirage Solo VR Headset, Dyson vacuum cleaner, Amazfit Stratos and Bip, Google Home and Sony headphones were given away. The top prize was won by Mr Tan Piah Chye (Snr Executive, Laboratories) amidst loud cheers from the crowd.
This is not the end but a beginning. As we embark on an exciting journey to the future, SCSE strives to continue providing top-notch training and facilities to students and scientists who have chosen our School.
SCSE is grateful to all staff and students, past and present, who have contributed to the School in its illustrious 30-years of history. The amazing journey and story of SCSE shall continue…
