Distinguished Paper Award at the 31st ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS'24)
A/Prof Luo Jun (above photo), in collaboration with his Research Fellow Dr Hu Jingzhi (inset photo), Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) visiting student Mr Wang Penghao (PhD), and Mr Wang’s PhD advisor A/Prof Chao Liu (Ocean University of China) have brought home the “Distinguished Paper Awards”, at the 31st ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS'24), Salt Lake City, USA. Details about the award-winning paper is as following:
- RefleXnoop: Passwords Snooping on NLoS Laptops Leveraging Screen-Induced Sound Reflection
Wang Penghao, Hu Jingzhi, Liu Chao and Luo Jun
This paper points out a realistic attack that may allow malicious adversary to readily snooping passwords typed on laptops used in public spaces, such as airport, library, and classroom. While alerting common users for a lethal attack and also providing possible countermeasures, this paper also boosts a meticulously engineered sound sensing device: if used in decent manner, this compact device can perform high-resolution motion tracking in a contact-free manner from a rather long distance.
CCS is one of the three world-top conferences on Cyber Security, and it is also the flagship venue of ACM SIGSAC (Special Interest Group on Security, Audit and Control). There have been 1964 manuscripts submitted to CCS’24, among them 328 were accepted while only 27 of them have been awarded “Distinguished Paper”.
The paper is supported by the “Integrating Sensing with Data Traffic for Future Communications over Ubiquitous IoT Devices” project funded by National Research Foundation, Singapore and Infocomm Media Development Authority under its Future Communications Research & Development Programme FCP-NTU-RG-2022-015.
