NAP Yu Han Conferred the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of Singapore (Scientific/ Technological Development) Award 2022
Dr Yu Han is currently a Nanyang Assistant Professor (NAP) at the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Over the past decade he has made significant contributions in the research, development and deployment of trustworthy Al techniques to make real-world impact. Most notably, imbuing the element of trust into Federated Learning (FL) enabling open collaboration among FL co-creators and enhance the adoption of the FL paradigm.
So far, Dr Yu's research has generated over 200 research papers in book chapters, leading international conferences and journals. He co-authored the book Federated Learning - the first monograph on the topic of federated learning. His research work has been recognised with multiple scientific awards. In 2021, he co-founded the Trustworthy Federated Ubiquitous Learning (TrustFUL) Research Lab (https://trustful.federated-learning.org/). He is a Senior Member of AAAI, CCF and IEEE.
His works have not only made significant scientific research contributions, but also significant positive real-world impact through award-winning translational efforts with industry partners. His TrustFUL technologies have been put into practice in collaboration with industry partners (in fields ranging from banking, healthcare to Industrial 4.0) and have been recognised by the prestigious Innovative Application Awards from the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), USA.
On top of his success in academia, Dr Yu has gone above and beyond his profession to harness technology for real-world impact. His contributions for the last decade have touched many lives in the Singapore community and uplifted those in greater need, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
For these achievements, Dr Yu have been selected as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of Singapore (Scientific and/or Technological Development) in 2022 by Junior Chamber International (JCI). Organised by JCI City Singapore, the award recognises the exceptional contributions by young persons under the age of 40 in various fields from entrepreneurship, cultural achievements to research and innovation.
The award ceremony was held on 26 Feb 2023. The Guest of Honour, Mr Desmond Tan, Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, presented the award.
