[New]Assessment and learning outcomes for generative AI in higher education: A scoping review on current research status and trends

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) impacts assessment and learning outcomes in higher education. Educators are concerned about evaluating student learning in this context. Our scoping review of 34 studies identified three assessment approaches: traditional, innovative, and GenAI-integrated, along with new outcomes like career competencies and lifelong learning skills. Most studies were qualitative. We present current trends and suggest five future research directions: innovative designs, collaboration among approaches, new outcomes, and quantitative studies.
