On the afternoon of August 19, CCDC held a technical exchange and sharing session with Nanyang Technological University. Mr. Sheng Yukun, General Manager of Engineering Technical Department, delivered an engaging lecture on "CCDC’s Journey in Bracing Sustainable Construction" at Lecture 7 of Nanyang Technological University. The event was attended by approximately 180 fourth-year undergraduate students from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
The event was hosted by Assoc Prof Robert Tiong and Assoc Prof Ou Zhao. Assoc Prof Robert Tiong firstly introduced the theme of the sharing, extended a warm welcome to the audience, and expressed gratitude for the support from CCDC. Mr. Loh Cheen Heng from the company's HR Department briefly introduced the company's development history, achievements, and honors, and encouraged students to learn about and consider joining the CCDC family.
As the main part of the sharing, Mr. Sheng Yukun elaborated on the company’s exploration and practice in sustainable construction from four dimensions: DfMA, BIM/IDD, Robotic Construction, and Low-carbon Construction. In the dimension of DfMA, he detailed the characteristics and advantages of PPVC/PBU through the development history of the company’s PPVC/PBU projects and the production process of PPVC/PBU modules and MEP modules in our self-owned DfMA center. For BIM/IDD, Mr. Sheng Yukun discussed the evolution of BIM/IDD policies in the construction industry and shared the company's strategy and determination to lead and maintain its position at the forefront of BIM/IDD in the industry through active policy responses, high-level team development, and continued high-quality application of BIM/IDD in our projects. He emphasized that the standardization of data is a key factor determining the quality of IDD. In the Robotic Construction dimension, he showcased the successful application or trial use of various robots in CCDC projects, including paint-spraying robots, drilling robots, plastering robots, and floor tiling robots. Regarding green low-carbon construction, he presented new technologies applied by the company, such as photovoltaic panels on the site office roofs of Riviera MRT Station and Tunnel project, photovoltaic panels on DfMA center roofs, and smart energy storage system, which contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
The lecture concluded with enthusiastic responses from the students, with applause filling the room. Some students even approached the stage to engage in discussions with company representatives. Assoc Prof Ou Zhao from Nanyang Technological University summarized the lecture and once again expressed gratitude for the support provided by CCDC.
CCDC is consistently committed to building a platform for collaboration between academia and industry, strengthening our partnerships with local universities. After four consecutive years of holding online discussions with Nanyang Technological University, we are excited to finally have the opportunity to visit the campus this year for in-depth, face-to-face exchanges with students. Looking ahead, CCDC will continue to spare no effort in organizing a variety of interactive activities with local universities. While sharing the latest applications of construction technologies, CCDC aims to provide local graduates with broader career development opportunities. At the same time, CCDC hopes that universities will share their latest technological advancements with us, enabling us to jointly translate cutting-edge theories into practical applications and promote the sustainable development and innovative progress of Singapore's construction industry.
