Title: Network security in an interconnected and automated world - From Web Bots to security monitoring and analytics

As IT systems face increasing threats, building trust and resilience of IT systems is essential to safeguard modern societies. Prof. Mathias Fischer, professor of computer networks at the University of Hamburg, will provide insights into his research on resilient communication and network security, with a focus on privacy-aware technologies that reduce attackers' visibility. His research interests include IT and network security, resilient distributed systems, network monitoring, and botnets. He holds a PhD (2012) and a diploma in computer science (2008), both from TU Ilmenau.

This talk will showcase his recent work, including:
  • Web security strategies for mitigating web bots,
  • QUIC load balancing and addressing its privacy concerns,
  • Advanced security monitoring to detect complex cyberattacks.
The session will cover practical ways to strengthen IT systems against modern security threats.
