Xu Yingchu : One of Only 20 Optica Women Scholars for 2023

Laser focused: Congrats to #NTUsg #EEE final-year student Xu Yingchu who has been named as one of only 20 Optica Women Scholars globally for 2023 by the Optica Foundation. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of Optica, the world’s leading professional society for #optics and #photonics.

Yingchu was chosen from nearly 180 students from 38 countries this year. The scholarship is awarded annually based on need, academic performance and demonstrated potential. It supports young women studying physics, mathematics, engineering, optics and photonics at the undergraduate and Masters level.

As part of the award, Yingchu received US$10,000 to reduce any financial hurdles and barriers she may face, so that she can focus on her academic experience. She will also have access to professional development resources from Optica, including membership and mentorship.

Yingchu plans to pursue a PhD in optics and photonics after graduating, and tap the scholarship to grow her research experience and get more international exposure.
