Engineering the Heart

NTU Engineering the Heart
Proud to be serving the student community, Year 3 Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) undergraduate, Esther Chin (right in photo) shares what keeps her engine going as she serves two consecutive years in the MSE club as a main committee.

“As a leader, it is very heartening to see that you can encourage the heart and enable others to act. I think that impactful leadership is like throwing a pebble into the water and creating a ripple effect.

What motivates me is that when I know that I am in the position where I can make changes to improve the well-being and student life of my peers. It gives me a sense of responsibility and accountability to do my best in serving my peers.”

Hall life is her favourite experience in NTU.

“I stayed in Hall of Residence 9 since year 1 and it was like a second home. I forged many close bonds with the people there and my hall friends were always helpful and friendly. I was part of the Hall 9 Badminton IHG team, and it was the best time of my life in year 1 when I was lost and afraid of the new environment. The teammates treated me like family, and we always have team bonding sessions through trainings, meals, and supper activities.

Make more friends, when you graduate you not only take away tangible skills and knowledge but also lifelong friendships and memories. Don’t be afraid to try out new things, there are plenty of opportunities in school, be it academics or leadership.”
