ERI@N BBQ & Frame the Fun Session
ERI@N colleagues gathered at East Coast Park for an enjoyable afternoon to embark on a "Frame the Fun" session, exploring and capturing landmark spots around the beach. After a refreshing workout, we relaxed with cool drinks and fired up the barbecue pits, enjoying a well-deserved feast to satisfy our appetites. We ended the day with a fun water bomb session, soaking each other with laughter and excitement, leaving everyone with unforgettable memories.
OneNTU Day
As part of the inaugural OneNTU Day, ERI@N welcomed NTU colleagues and their family members to our institute and to learn more about our research and facilities in the area of energy, innovation and sustainability. Our team had a great time sharing about the research efforts of ERI@N and our guests were delighted to visit our labs, take a ride on one of our autonomous vehicles, and learn more about how we try to improve battery performance, and recycle them.

Electrification of Habourcraft
ERI@N is proud to be working with the Singapore Maritime Institute to help Singapore’s maritime industry pivot to more energy efficient and environmentally-friendly operations through the electrification of harbour craft. Through our four work packages, we have developed the advanced shore power charger to be deployed at port to power ships with electric power instead of diesel. The ERI@N team also developed a Marine Energy Management System to help plan and manage the optimal energy use in marine vessels.
CleanEnviro Summit Singapore 2024
ERI@N supported the sixth edition of the CleanEnviro Summit Singapore 2024 with an exhibition showcase of our “Cool Paint” project. The exhibition showcased how our researchers created a type of "cool paint" by using recycled plastics and then applying the paint on buildings, helping them to reduce the surface temperature to 1.5°C below ambient temperature in the day and 3°C below ambient temperature at night.

ERI@N Scientific Workshop
ERI@N hosted our Scientific Workshop 2024, bringing together researchers from our interdisciplinary programmes and groups to share their current projects and team developments. This valuable session helped colleagues gain insight into each other’s work and provided a great platform for fostering cross-collaboration. We celebrated some of our colleagues with prizes for the best presentations!
External Advisory Panel for Environmental Sustainability (EAPES) Panel
ERI@N’s Executive Director Prof Madhavi Srinivasan and Prof Yeoh Lean Weng, Chief Sustainability Officer of A*STAR hosted a thematic workshop on 'AI for Sustainability' at the National Research Foundation Singapore. The workshop delved into specific topics catalysing the decarbonisation journey in Singapore and beyond. The session was attended by domain experts & AI experts and during the breakout session, they grouped together to brainstorm the challenges and opportunities in topics such as future grid, electrification, carbon management and urban nexus with specific focus on how AI could solve them.

External Advisory Panel for Environmental Sustainability (EAPES) Panel
ERI@N hosted the External Advisory Panel for Environmental Sustainability (EAPES) panel at the NTU Smart Campus. The panel, which comprises of experts in various fields, was setup to advise Ministry of Defence, Singapore (MINDEF) and ensure that their efforts are guided by science, data and evidence. ERI@N’s Executive Director, Prof Madhavi Srinivasan, is part of this panel that helps to provide assessment and recommendations on MINDEF/SAF's sustainability policies, strategies, and initiatives, as well as sharing knowledge, including latest developments, technologies and best practices.
Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) Customer Day 2024
At the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) Customer Day 2024, ERI@N's Electrification and Power Grid Centre (EPGC) was awarded the accreditation to support the certification of electric vehicle chargers according to Singapore’s TR25 standard. SAC Chairman Mr Tan Kai Hoe, presented the certification to Mr Alex Chong, Programme Director at ERI@N's EPGC.

YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia Visits ERI@N
ERI@N welcomed YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Kementerian Sains, Teknologi dan Inovasi (MOSTI), Malaysia. This visit was organised for Minister Chang to better understand the collaboration between MRANTI and CETRAN, and to continue discussions on how CETRAN can work with MRANTI to enhance the safety assessment process and testing requirements of AVs at MRANTI park.

ERI@N's Supportive Workplace Committee organised a staff retreat the Universal Studios Singapore! It was a fun afternoon full of thrills, spills and screams as our colleagues enjoyed the various rides, attractions and shows within the themepark.
ERI@N Awarded Bronze for NTU Safety & Health Awards
ERI@N is proud to receive the Bronze Award for the NTU Safety & Health Performance Awards 2023! As a research institute that deals with chemicals and elements within the energy sector, ERI@N has several high hazard areas and elevated risks in our research labs. Through our internal risk management assessments, we have implemented a host of preventive safety measures to ensure our operations are run smoothly and our people can come and leave work safely.

INSPIRASI Board Members Visit to ERI@N
ERI@N hosted the Indonesia–NTU Singapore Institute of Research for Sustainability and Innovation (INSPIRASI) board members together with our NTU colleagues.
The delegation were given a tour of the NTU’s newest building – Gaia, where they learn about the construction and sustainable technologies featured in the largest wooden building in Asia. In addition, they learnt about other sustainable buildings in NTU, and went on a walking tour around the North Spine Plaza. They also visited ERI@N facilities at CleanTech One where they were given an overview of the sustainable research efforts and projects under ERI@N, and toured the Systems Engineering & Future Mobility Lab, as well as the Advanced Battery Lab.

Roaring into the Year of the Wood Dragon!
Our colleagues gathered to revel in the ERI@N's Lunar New Year festivities at CleanTech One. We enjoyed a rousing lion dance performance, followed by the lo-hei session and a sumptuous feast for lunch!
We also held the first ERI@N communication session of the year where we looked back at the past year's highlights and also the upcoming activities and projects to look forward to.

Hungarian Minister of Culture and Innovation Visits ERI@N
ERI@N was honoured to host His Excellency Mr János Csák, Minister of Culture and Innovation of Hungary today at our CleanTech One premises.
Minister Csák, together with Her Excellency Ms Judit Pach, Ambassador of Hungary to Singapore, and the delegation from Hungary were here to understand more NTU's international collaborations such as the China-Singapore International Joint Research Institute, the Indonesia-NTU Singapore Institute of Research for Sustainability and Innovation, and our partnership with France CEA for Research in Circular Economy.

MoU Signing with Gotion
ERI@N is excited to continue our partnership with Gotion to further advance collaborations in EV battery research and applications. We look forward to working closely with Gotion to enhance energy storage technology which aims to make electric vehicles more sustainable and efficient as Singapore works towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

HRH Prince William Visits ERI@N
ERI@N was incredibly honoured to host His Royal Highness Prince William at our EcoLabs Centre of Innovation for Energy. HRH Prince William was in Singapore as part of the Earthshot Prize ceremony, and during his time at NTU Singapore, he spoke to EcoLabs startups on their sustainable, clean and efficient energy innovations, and showcased their product developments which are being deployed and commercialised to support Singapore's energy goals.

Singapore International Energy Week 2023
ERI@N organised a track on Energy Sustainability at the Asia Clean Energy Summit, which is part of the Singapore International Energy Week. Together with our lineup of industry experts and moderated by ERI@N colleagues, the engaging session discussed on challenges in the energy transition journey and potential solutions from technological advancements that could play a vital role in the near future.
NTU SCARCE Phase II
The NTU Singapore-CEA Alliance for Research in Circular Economy (NTU SCARCE) phase II signing was witnessed by Singapore DPM Mr Heng Swee Keat and French Minister for Higher Education and Research Prof Sylvie Retailleau during the 3rd Singapore=France Joint Committee on Science and innovation. Minister Retailleau and the French delegation also visit the NTU SCARCE lab to learn about the past achievements and upcoming projects of NTU SCARCE.

ERI@N SWC Cycling & BBQ Session
ERI@N's Supportive Workplace Committee organised a cycling and BBQ session at East Coast Park where we had lots of fun enjoying the sea breeze and feasting on our grilled food!
USPE 2024
ERI@N welcomed secondary school students to our REIDS platform on Semakau Landfill where the largest system of interconnected micro-grids in SEA were housed. The students learnt about how the REIDS system draws energy from various partner sites and redistributes any excess energy unused by one micro-grid to another.

EVe Board Members Visit to ERI@N
ERI@N hosted the board members of EVe, an LTA subsidiary which helps oversee the deployment of EV charging points across public carparks. We shared about our research efforts, highlighting our collaborative work in the AV / EV space.

NTU President Visit to ERI@N
ERI@N hosted NTU President Prof Ho Teck Hua as he visited our facilities to better understand the research efforts and focus of the Institute. Our management and programme directors also shared about the industry relevance of our research projects, and the innovation happening at our labs and testbeds.
Collaboration with Jurong Port and Surbana Jurong
ERI@N will be working with Jurong Port and Surbana Jurong for a collaboration project on "Ammonia fed solid oxide fuel cell as a power source for maritime industries”. The project aims to investigate the use of ammonia in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell systems at ports to generate low-carbon power which is a step towards achieving decabonisation of our ports and certain operations.

ASEAN Energy Outlook
ERI@N and ASEAN Centre for Energy co-hosted the 7th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO). The sharing session introduced AEO and its roles in regional energy cooperation, as well as modelling findings from ASEAN countries and how energy resilience can be built.

Green Mark Platinum Building Award
ERI@N's Smart and Sustainable Buildings Technology team was proud to be part of the project team that helped BCA Braddell Campus achieve the awards for Green Mark Platinum Buildings.
ERI@N Scientific Workshop
ERI@N held its first Scientific Workshop since the Covid-19 Pandemic to bring together researchers to listen to fellow colleagues presentations on their research projects and activities. The session also provides an opportunity to foster interdisciplinary cross collaboration between teams and colleagues.

Collaboration with Rohde & Schwarz
ERI@N has signed an MRCA with Rohde & Schwarz, one of the world’s leading electronics group specializing in test equipment for various sectors. In a multi-project collaboration, ERI@N researchers will carry out applied R&D with Rohde & Schwarz groups based in Singapore as well as in Germany. Such developments will eventually be used for several of Rohde & Schwarz products in communication, energy storage and the power market sector.

Visit by Kingdom of Tonga Prime Minister
ERI@N was honoured to welcome Honourable Hu'akavameiliku, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga, and Honourable Willie Tokataake, Minister for Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy of the Republic of Kiribati and delegation members. ERI@N had the opportunity to share with the delegation our research expertise in offshore renewables, and the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator Singapore (REIDS) programme on Semakau Landfill.
EcoGarden Walk Activity
ERI@N's Supportive Work Committee organised a lovely lunchtime nature walk at the Jurong Eco-garden located within CleanTech Park. We saw plenty of beautiful flora and fauna along the trail, and enjoyed the company of the buzzing bees, dancing dragonflies and fluttering butterflies. It was a good break from the usual hustle and bustle of the city life!

NTU Service Week
ERI@N was proud to be part of the NTU Service Week which was officially launched by Minister for Sustainability and Environment Ms Grace Fu on 25 February. We showcased our Flagship Programmes - EcoCampus and the Renewable Energy Integration Demonstrator - Singapore (REIDS) - ERI@N's key projects that involve a host of sustainable energy solutions being deployed on living testbeds.
Building Research Translation & Innovation Capacity
NTU Singapore and Vietnam National Innovation Center are collaborating to build research translation and innovation capacity for startups, research institutions and companies in both countries. Led by ERI@N's EcoLabs Centre of Innovation for Energy, the collaboration aims to help research institutions and start-ups make the leap into commercialising technologies that will benefit industry and society.

Visit by Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs
ERI@N was honoured to host Mrs. Judith Gerlach, Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs at our Systems Engineering and Future Mobility Lab. Hosted by NTU Senior Vice President for Research Professor Lam Khin Yong, and ERI@N’s Chief Operating Officer Mr Niels de Boer, the sharing session included an overview of NTU & ERI@N for Minister Gerlach and her accompanying delegation.
Singapore 2022 Symposium on Microgrids
The 16th annual Symposium on Microgrids was held on 1 - 2 November 2022 at the PARKROYAL Hotel on Kitchener Road, Singapore. Organized by the International Microgrid Symposium Steering Committee and the Local Organizing Committee comprising ERI@N team members, the symposium was attended by distinguished researchers, industry, academia, and policymakers from around the globe. This marks the first time for the Symposium to be hosted in Singapore and the ASEAN region.

Visit by Minister Shane Rattenbury
ERI@N welcomed ACT Minister Shane Rattenbury, Minister for Water, Energy and Emissions Reduction, and delegation to our EcoLabs' Digital Twin Innovation Lab. Minister Rattenbury, who was in Singapore for the Singapore International Energy Week 2022, visited us to understand about our research initiatives and discuss possible collaborations and projects with Australia.

As a supporting partner of the Singapore International Energy Week 2022, ERI@N hosted two roundtable workshop sessions at the annual week-long conference where thought leaders, energy professionals, policymakers and commentators gathered to share best practices and solutions within the global energy space.

Visit by Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission
ERI@N's Co-Director, Prof Chan Siew Hwa hosted Mr Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in Oct 2022. We showcased our systems engineering and future mobility lab, and had a fruitful discussion on the potential energy areas such as renewables', sustainability, digitalisation, etc. that IEC standards can be adopted.

Webinar: Requirements and Test Methods of Fire-Resistant Cables
A webinar on Requirements and Test Methods of Fire-Resistant Cables on 26 Aug 2022 was organised by the NTU Standards Development team. Participants learned about the key changes made to the SS 299:2021 standard of the construction and performance on mechanical and electrical requirements, and there was also a sharing session from a cable specialists on fire-resistant cables.

Best Warehouse Autonomation Award
Huge congratulations to Botsync for winning the "Best Warehouse Automation Award" by LogiSYM at their 4th Awards Ceremony!
Botsync, a spin-off incubated at ERI@N's EcoLabs Centre of Innovation for Energy, is a robotics startup that builds heavy duty autonomous mobile robots to help companies transit from manual operations to automation in less than a week.
NTU Graduate College Research Excellence Award
Our heartiest congratulations to Ren Chao, an ERI@N PhD student who was selected for the NTU Graduate College Research Excellence Award for the academic year 2021 - 2022!
Ren Chao's research work on "Advanced Data Analytics for Future Smart Grid Stability Assessment" focused on the development of a series of data-driven methodologies for accurate, fast, and robust applicable stability assessment, covering both pre-fault DSA and post-fault realtime STVS assessment areas under some extreme scenarios and practical issues.

Saudi Aramco's Visit to ERI@N
ERI@N hosted the delegation from Saudi Aramco and Enterprise Singapore and shared about our exciting projects and research that we do to bring forth energy innovation. We also learnt about Saudi Aramco's initiatives in sustainability, and their interest in Hydrogen and helping to accelerate startups in the energy sector.

ERI@N held its first physical communications session earlier in June since the pandemic hit.
The session featured updates by ERI@N Management, the sharing of new research projects by our researchers, followed by a tour of our lab facilities and concluded with a sumptuous buffet lunch.

Learning Journey on AVs for Secondary School Students
In collaboration with IMDA, ERI@N hosted groups of secondary school students in the Infocomm Club Members to learn more about AVs and EVs. During the sessions, our researchers shared about the AVEM projects at ERI@N, and the students also had a chance to learn more about the technologies behind our AV vehicles.
Public-Private Partnerships for Research and Innovation Forum
ERI@N was invited to showcase our sustainability projects REIDS and EcoCampus as part of the inaugural Public-Private Partnerships for Research and Innovation forum organised by NTU's Global Alliance of Industries.

ERI@N's Programme Director for Future Mobility Solutions Mr Niels de Boer was a panellist at the inaugural Business Conference organised by the NTU Nanyang Business School. At the session, Mr de Boer shared about ERI@N's research efforts and technologies developed in the sustainability domain, in particular, the ERI@N flagship programme - EcoCampus.
Minister Tan See Leng Visits ERI@N
ERI@N was honoured to host Minister for Manpower and 2nd Minister for Trade and Industry Dr Tan See Leng and colleagues from MTI & EMA. ERI@N’s management shared with the delegation about our research efforts in Digitalisation and Electrification, as well as Energy Storage and Hydrogen. The visit included a tour of our lab facilities of systems engineering, autonomous and electric vehicles, and battery recycling and fabrication, and also a showcase of the deeptech energy startups working with the EcoLabs programme.

URA AV Exhibition Tour at CETRAN
In support of URA's Urban Lab exhibition on Reimagining Urban Mobility with Autonomous Vehicles, ERI@N's Centre of Excellence of Testing and Research of AVs at NTU (CETRAN) open its doors to URA colleagues, stakeholders and the general public for an exclusive session to learn about the testing and regulation of AVs, and to experience a ride on the NTU-LTA-AV Bus.

Best French Smart Grids Thesis 2021
The Scientific Council of the French Think SmartGrids Association "Best French Smart Grids Thesis 2021” recently awarded to Lalitha Subramanian!
The winning thesis, "Stability enhancement of inverter dominated Power Systems using virtual inertia control” was supervised jointly by G2Elab (Université Grenoble Alpes - France) and NTU Singapore.
