The second Southeast Asia Regional Initiative for the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) workshop was held on 1 – 3 August at the Earth Observatory of Singapore. Twenty hazard experts from the region and representatives from the GEM Hazard team gathered together with the same goals:
- Review the state-of-the-art and knowledge in studies and mapping of active faults across the Southeast Asia region and their association to recent earthquake activity.
- Identify gaps for future research
- Discuss the integration of fault data, geodetic strain rates and seismic data in a coherent model of seismic sources
- A consensus model of seismic sources and seismic hazard for the whole Southeast Asia region
During this Workshop, various countries models had been presented and each presentation had given 10min to 20min for discussion. Also, Marco Pagani and Graeme Weatherill from GEM had demonstrated the capabilities of the GEM software, discussed global components, regional programs in GEM and also helped in next phase of hazard modeling.
