Singapore Semiconductor Ventures (SSV) Programme 2025

30 Apr 2025 05.00 PM - 07.00 PM NTU and NUS Campus Current Students

NTU, NUS and A*STAR, in collaboration with Temasek and Xora, are launching the Singapore Semiconductor Ventures (SSV) Programme. The rapid rise of AI, Cloud and IoT has led to demands for new innovation in chips, interconnects, sensors and related hardware. The SSV is designed as a venture exploration class for participants to dive deep into semiconductor venture development.

Participants will work with experienced global entrepreneurs and venture partners in the semiconductor space to explore opportunities to commercialise semiconductor innovations drawn from NTU, NUS and A*STAR. Research staff and graduate students from Business, Engineering and Science are welcomed to apply. Teams will undergo a 10-week venture exploration sprint with the guidance of mentors and speakers from the global VCs.

Instructors, presenters and mentors for the programme include:

  • Olivier Rousseaux – Director Venture Development, IMEC
  • Tom Vanhoutte – Partner, IMEC.xpand
  • Mian Zhang – Chief Executive Officer, Hyperlight
  • Phil Inagaki – Managing Partner & Chief Investment Officer, Xora Innovation
  • Christian Patze, Investment Director M Venture

This is a part-time programme running from mid-May 2025 to Aug 2025. All graduate students, research fellows and research associates at NTU, NUS and A*STAR are eligible. Successful applicants will be matched with the developers of NTU, NUS and A*STAR technology innovations to form well-rounded, multidisciplinary teams.

With their instructors and mentors, teams will do hands-on work for their innovations on the following topics:

  • Global semiconductor innovation trends and policies/regulations
  • Innovation value proposition and business model discovery
  • Techno-economic analysis and manufacturing for scaling
  • Investor perspectives on semiconductor ventures
  • Funding sources for semiconductor ventures (globally and in SEA)
  • Entrepreneurs’ perspectives
  • IMEC ecosystem and ASIC development
  • Fundamentals of sales, marketing and company building

Throughout the programme, teams will progressively build pitches for their innovations, culminating in final presentations to a panel of experienced global investors. While this is not an actual pitch for an investment, teams will be better prepared and be more tuned into the ecosystem as they look to commercialise innovations going forward.

Please note: This application is to join the program as an individual who would join a team formed around a previously selected innovation. If you are a researcher with an innovation in the semiconductor you would like to include in future runs of the programme, please reach out to the relevant NTU or NUS contact mentioned below.

Programme details are as follows:

  • Programme session dates: 14th May to Aug 2025 (10 weeks, Wednesdays, 9am – 11am)
  • Final presentation: End July/Early August
  • Time commitment: In addition to programme sessions, teams will be expected to make time for customer discovery interviews with industry experts and weekly meetings with mentor
  • Location: Programme sessions alternating between NTU and A*STAR
