The ACS programme is the only programme in Singapore accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence. The RA program covers the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) exam curriculum and enhances students’ analytical skills for financial risk management.

IRFRC is looking for an experienced data engineer (DE) to join our team. Data Engineer will use various methods to build data pipelines and transform raw data into useful data systems for GAIP Living Lab projects in the areas of climate, mortality, pandemic, and health. DE will be also responsible for IRFRC’s IT applications and infrastructure. Overall, the DE’s goal is to develop IT/data systems in alignment with business goals. This includes developing, enhancing, and maintaining databases. Additionally, DE is required to develop algorithms, conduct statistical analysis, and complete documentation.

Key responsibilities:

  • Co-evaluate business needs and objectives.
  • Build IT/data systems and pipelines.
  • Build algorithms and prototypes.
  • Support data acquisition for research activities.
  • Analyze and organize raw data for prescriptive and predictive modeling.
  • Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability.
  • Create database objects and managing schemas.
  • Document database procedures, functions, triggers, and dictionaries.
  • Manage and coordinate with external parties to provide database support.
  • Engage in infrastructure implementation and setup as per application requirements.
  • Manage, design, and implement database backup and recovery procedure for database recovery.
  • Collaborate with IRFRC researchers.
  • Implement data quality validation processes to ensure data quality.
  • Enforce best practices to ensure data security and privacy.

Requirements:

  • PhD in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role.
  • Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Java and Python).
  • Hands-on experience with SQL database design.
  • Experience with data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake and Redshift).
  • Experience in Unix/Linux, Virtual Machines, APIs.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS and Azure) and MS PowerApps.
  • Numerical and analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with climate, environment, mortality, and health data.
  • Understand data security and privacy regulations.

IRFRC is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) to lead the research projects related to mortality and health risks in collaboration with GAIP and NBS faculty. The successful candidate will lead multiple research topics such as health and mortality study of impact from Covid-19 and climate change in Asian countries, impact of Covid-19 and climate change on the demand and design of life insurance and retirement products. The PDF is expected to carry out scientific research on these topics, present findings to GAIP sponsors and the academic community, and publish in leading academic journals.

Key responsibilities:

Candidates will be working and interacting with researchers at IRFRC and GAIP, with emphasis on:

  • Develop models and forecasts for mortality rates in the context of pandemics and climate changes, particularly in Asian countries.
  • Analyze the impact of pandemics and climate changes on life and health insurance, as well as retirement products.
  • Develop impactful assessment and advisory reports as needed to support development of risk financing solution.
  • Produce high quality research articles and industry reports.
  • Present research findings to GAIP sponsors and the academic community.

The successful candidate should also demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, particularly effectiveness in communicating complex concepts to the public, and attention to detail.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Actuarial Science, Risk Management, Insurance, Statistics, or related fields
  • Proven research experience with some record of publications in top-tier journals
  • Attention to details
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Relevant insurance/actuarial industry experience and actuarial designations are valuable assets but not mandatory prerequisites.
