Singapore Actuarial Conference 2023

Insurance Risk and Finance Research Centre's (IRFRC) Prof Jessica Dang Ou will be speaking on "Before we close the book on COVID - Mortality impact of the pandemic in Asia" at the upcoming upcoming Singapore Actuarial Conference 2023. 

Abstract: As we transition to living with COVID-19 as an endemic disease, we examine the mortality experience of selected Asian countries from 2020 to 2022. We employ a stochastic mortality model to estimate the magnitude of the COVID-related mortality shock and project future mortality rates under various scenarios of how the COVID-related mortality shock may subside. We also analyze the excess mortality during the pandemic in the context of each country's long-term mortality trend and explore the forecasted life expectancy under different scenarios. Additionally, we discuss the implications of our findings for life insurance practitioners.
