ACSEL Conference 2023 — Nov 9-10, 2023

The Asian Conference on Safety & Education in Laboratory, abbreviated as ACSEL, is as an annual conference organized by leading universities in Asia. The primary objective is to provide a platform for safety and health scientists, researchers, and professionals to showcase best practices in laboratory safety and health and engage in insightful discussions. On raising safety and health standards in higher education.
The 10th ACSEL conference was held in Nusa Dua Bali, Indonesia on 9 – 10 November 2023. The conference was hosted by the Disaster Risk Reduction Centre at Universitas Indonesia (DRRC UI) and it was attended by 200 participants across Asia and beyond. The conference explored an array of crucial topics for safety and health in higher education which included: Safety & Security Culture, Health & Safety Behaviour); Artificial intelligence on safety management & education, Safety Education (Chemical, Laboratory, emergency and disaster management), Waste Management or Treatment etc.
The conference itinerary included plenary, oral and poster presentations.
Four NTU staff attended the conference. Mr Saravanan Gunaratnam, Ms Poon Yoke Yin, Dr Sini Mathew, from Office of Health & Safety and Mr Sowpati Jayaker from Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Mr Saravanan spoke at the plenary session and did a co-presentation with NUS colleague on the role of Artificial Intelligence on Risk assessment. Ms Poon Yoke Yin, Dr Sini Mathew, and Mr Sowpati Jayaker gave oral presentations and were recipients of the Best Oral presenters.

- Dr Sini Mathew presented on Establishing a safety & health management system in a medical school – sharing from LKCMedicine experience.
- Mr Sowpati Jayaker presented his talk on the LKC Online Waste Management.
