NTU Trees: Upcycled
NTU Trees: Upcycled was a collaborative project between NTU Museum and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. In this project, more than 70 trees that were felled to make way for the facility development on campus were repurposed. The exhibition tells the story of our journey to repurpose our trees, giving them a new lease of life by turning them into unique, beautiful and functional works of art and objects. It was a journey taken to bring about a revival and renewal of these trees, re-establish its place and relationship with nature and environment, and rekindle its connectivity with the campus community.
Started in 2014, this initiative was a collaborative project between NTU Museum and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine involving NTU staff, faculty, students, external artists and designers. Through their creativity, experiments and hard work, these trees were given a new lease of life as they were transformed into more than 50 beautiful works of art and furniture.
An exhibition was held in 2016 at NTU’s Experimental Medicine Building. The products of this project are now displayed and used at various parts of the university’s two campuses.
