What we do
DiscoverAt LUMINOUS! Centre of Excellence for Semiconductor Lighting and Displays, housing faculty members from Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Physical and Mathematical Sciences (PMS), and Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), we drive together multidisciplinary research initiatives aimed at delivering innovative solutions nanophotonics, optoelectronics, electronics, photonics, and optics across material, device, and system levels. Our focus is on developing next-generation, ultrahigh-efficiency semiconductor light-emitting devices, spanning wavelengths from the infrared to the extreme ultraviolet, leveraging both classical and quantum properties of light.
Lighting, which accounts for approximately 19% of global electricity consumption, is a cornerstone of modern society. Enhancing efficiency in artificial lighting is critical to promoting sustainable growth and unlocking substantial economic and societal benefits worldwide.
LUMINOUS! aspires to establish itself as a global research hub, fostering a robust international network of industrial partners in Singapore. Our team of pioneering scientists and emerging researchers is supported by cutting-edge facilities, including advanced equipment for semiconductor epitaxial growth and colloidal synthesis, device modeling, physics, fabrication, and high-performance system development. Together, we are paving the way for breakthroughs in optoelectronic and photonic technologies that will shape the future.
