Intelligent Competitive Robotics

Mentor: Associate Professor Chen I-Ming and Associate Professor Xie Ming

Objective:
To gain the fundamental knowledge and hands-on techniques of intelligent autonomous robots through robotics team projects.

Description:
Students will design, fabricate, and programme a team of intelligent autonomous robots (in humanoid robot form) to participate in local and international robot competitions. Through actual development of the robots, students will be able to gain a better understanding of robotics and its applications.

Methodology:

  1. A standard humanoid robot platform will be used for students to learn the fundamentals of robotics and machine intelligence. Students will use the skills learnt to participate in the Robocup Standard Platform league competition.
  2. Based on the experience learnt from the Standard platform robot, students can then proceed to design their own humanoid robots. The development of this custom-built humanoid robot will then be prepared for the Humanoid league robot competition in the Singapore Robotics Game (SRG) or the Federation of International Robosoccer Association (FIRA).
  3. Issues related to the robotics competition, such as artificial intelligence, kinematics, design, vision, control and locomotion, etc will be learnt through the overall robot competition process.

Special requirement:
Mechatronics stream students are preferred. Non mechatronic stream students with at least one of the following skills will be considered: computer programming, mechanical design and micro control.
