The prestigious 2022 Bažant Medal is awarded to Distinguished University Professor Gao Huajian by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

Distinguished University Professor Gao Huajian receives the 2022 Zdeněk P. Bažant Medal for his contributions to fracture mechanics and failure prevention in nanostructured materials, including metals, metamaterials, and battery electrodes.

About the Bažant Medal:

This award was established to honor Zdeněk P. Bažant, Ph.D., S.E., NAS, NAE, Hon.M.ASCE, a recognized expert in the field of analytical and computational modeling of failure of quasi-brittle materials. The award was instituted by the ASCE Board of Direction on January 8, 2015. Prof. Subra Suresh, current President of NTU, was the inaugural Bažant medalist in 2016.
