News: Anatomy Challenge 2024
By Joash Cheng, Chairman, Anatomy Challenge 2024
Anatomy Challenge kicked off with a total of 275 students from over 22 participating schools this year, eager to put their knowledge of vascular and lymphatic anatomy to the test. The event began with a warm welcome from the Chairperson before the vigorous Individual Challenge. Subsequently, participants were given the opportunity to learn more about the circulatory system through booths prepared by the organising committee comprising of LKCMedicine students.
Participants tried their hands on performing ultrasound of the heart, and learning how to perform intravenous therapy. These booths were helmed by LKCMedicine students and doctors alike. This year’s event featured a new booth that caught the eye of participants – a booth by Assistant Professor Lynn Yap presenting cutting-edge research on the vascular system.
Associate Professor Glenn Tan Wei Leong, Senior Consultant of vascular surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) was Guest-of-Honour at the event. Emeritus Consultant in Surgery at TTSH, Prof Low Cheng Hock, as well as Dean of LKCMedicine, Professor Joseph Sung graced the occasion, sharing words of wisdom with the participants on the intricacies of the human anatomy.
In the final round, five teams were selected from their performance in the Individual Challenge. These teams would then participate in a brand-new format of the Team Challenge, modelled after the childhood game, Snakes and Ladders. The ups and downs of each team were followed with much enthusiasm by judges, Associate Professor Reddy Mogali (LKCMedicine Head of Anatomy), Dr Vivek Perumal (Senior Lecturer of Anatomy at LKCMedicine), Associate Professor Lawrence Quek (Senior Consultant of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at TTSH), and Dr Lee Hwei Yee (Senior Consultant of Pathology at TTSH).
After a thrilling game, the team from Raffles Institution emerged as the champions, and clinched the Low Cheng Hock Challenge Shield and the Championship Trophy.
The organising committee behind Anatomy Challenge 2024 faced several challenges themselves as the event involved many novel elements. However, they overcame the odds by adapting and improvising, making this year’s edition a more memorable and interactive experience for both participants and guests.
The organising committee conveys its heartfelt thanks to all student volunteers, judges, and sponsors as well as LKCMedicine faculty and staff who made Anatomy Challenge 2024 a resounding success!
