Blood Donation Drive at LKCMedicine

On 22 January, in collaboration with Singapore Red Cross, LKCMedicine held its second annual blood donation drive at the Clinical Sciences Building, Novena Campus. Led by LKCMedSoc, their objectives include collecting blood for Health Sciences Authority's Bloodbank for future medical use, as well as raising awareness among LKCMedicine students and staff of the importance and impact of blood donation. A total of 54 blood units was donated by 88 participants in this joint blood donation drive with Singapore Red Cross.

LKCMedicine-CITS cybersecurity exhibition roadshow

The cybersecurity exhibition "Invisible Attacks" created by LKCMedicine and NTU Centre for IT Services (CITS) will go on a tour of other pre-university institutions, healthcare organisations and libraries after successfully completing its run at LKCMedicine and NTU. The exhibition will travel to Victoria Junior College (13-21 Feb), Hwa Chong Institution (24 Feb – 13 Mar), Tan Tock Seng Hospital (13-17 Apr) and Jurong Regional Library (4 May – 1 Jun). Other venues will be announced in due course.

JC principals host LKCMedicine

On 30 January, the School was hosted at the monthly Junior College Principals' Committee meeting held at Anderson-Serangoon Junior College. The principals went through their internal agenda items before receiving an update from LKCMedicine on the new developments at the School including the changes to admissions and the outreach activities in conjunction with the School's 10th Year Anniversary. Many of the questions fielded by LKCMedicine focused on the admission process, financial aids and recent outreach activities.

LKCMedicine hosts International Science Youth Forum participants

On 14 January, LKCMedicine hosted 29 delegates and facilitators from the 12th International Science Youth Forum (ISYF) at the Clinical Sciences Building, Novena campus. The participants, who were mostly Year 4 and 5 students from Singapore, the US, UK, Australia, Estonia, Japan, Russia, Taiwan and Philippines took part in a Team-Based Learning (TBL) class, getting first-hand experience of the School's innovative, technology-enhanced approach to teaching. The participants then proceeded to the Practical Skills Laboratory for a fun session involving a number of games which tested their ability to work in a team and focus under time constraints. The next stop was the Anatomy Learning Centre, where the students observed an actual lesson before exploring the Anatomy Resource Centre. The visit ended with a tour of the Medical Library.

Victoria-Cedar Alliance visits LKCMedicine

On 16 January, LKCMedicine hosted more than 50 students and teachers from the Victoria-Cedar Alliance Integrated Programme (VCA IP) at Experimental Medicine Building, NTU main campus. The VCA IP comprises Victoria School, Cedar Girls' Secondary School and Victoria Junior College, and their visit to NTU is part of an annual orientation programme to introduce them to the broad range of tertiary and career opportunities that await them after completing their GCE A-Level examinations. The visitors were given an overview of the School's admission criteria, unique pedagogy, facilities, as well as what it takes to pursue a career in medicine. The visit concluded with an interactive demonstration of Team-Based Learning.
