Message from Our Staff: Go from strength to strength with LKCMedicine
By Associate Professor Kwek Tong Kiat, Assistant Dean (Admissions & Overseas Electives) |
Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine has come of age! Since 2013, the School has graduated six cohorts of doctors who are now working in the local healthcare system and serving the people of Singapore. Our tried and tested five-year undergraduate medical degree programme builds a strong foundation in the sciences of medicine, employing the latest and best pedagogies in teaching such as team-based learning, high-fidelity stimulation and effective communication training.
As part of the School’s development journey, we will be completing our joint degree collaboration with Imperial College London and transitioning to an independent NTU programme in 2028. We will be making further enhancements to our MBBS programme to make it even better and ready to meet the evolving healthcare needs of Singapore.
From 2024 onwards, LKCMedicine will be using the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) scores as part of the requirements for entry to LKCMedicine’s MBBS programme. The UCAT will replace the BMAT test with effect from the admission exercise for AY2024. Therefore, students intending to apply for admission to LKCMedicine in 2024 will need to take the UCAT in 2023.
The UCAT is a computer-based admissions test, used by a consortium of UK Universities and non-UK associate member universities including LKCMedicine to help select applicants for medical and dental degree programmes. It is a two-hour test consisting of five separately timed subtests in multiple-choice format. It is an aptitude test focused on assessing a range of mental abilities and knowledge candidates should already have. The time window for taking the UCAT runs from July to September each year and you are only allowed to take the test once in each admissions cycle, with the results valid for only the admissions cycle in which the test was taken. Please refer to the LKCMedicine and UCAT websites for more information.
At LKCMedicine, we are always on the lookout for self motivated, resourceful, dedicated and empathetic individuals to join the School to be the healthcare professionals of tomorrow, to be the doctors we want caring for us. If you think you fit the bill, come join us! We look forward to meeting you at LKCMedicine!
