MSE Winners of the Nanyang Awards 2024
We are thrilled to announce that three of our colleagues have been honoured with the Nanyang Awards 2024, recognising their exceptional contributions to research and education.
NANYANG RESEARCH AWARD 2024 – Professor Qingyu (Alex) Yan
Professor Alex Yan has been awarded the Nanyang Research Award for his pioneering work in sustainable agriculture. His team has developed a "greener" method for producing urea, reducing the environmental impact of fertiliser production. Additionally, Professor Yan’s research spans across thermoelectric devices and battery technology, where his team’s innovative approaches are making significant strides towards efficient and safe solutions.

NANYANG EDUCATION AWARD (UNIVERSITY) GOLD 2024 – Associate Professor Tan Lay Poh
NANYANG EDUCATION AWARD (SCHOOL) 2024 – Assistant Professor Tan Kwan Wee
Assistant Professor Tan Kwan Wee has been recognised with the Nanyang Education Award (School) for his innovative teaching methods in the undergraduate core modules MS1017 Introduction to Materials Science and MS1018 Properties of Materials. Through experiential and technology-enabled learning, he has enriched students' educational experience, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. His dedication to mentorship and curriculum development continues to inspire and prepare the next generation of engineers.
The Nanyang Education Award is the highest honour conferred by the University to faculty members in the field of teaching. It recognises the dedication and achievements of faculty members who demonstrate outstanding, innovative teaching and enrich the learning experiences of NTU undergraduates. These Award recipients inspire students through their dedication to excellent teaching practices and their genuine concern for their student's learning experience.
