Top 10 Winner of Falling Walls Science Breakthrough of the Year 2023 - Prof Chen Xiaodong

We are delighted to announce Professor Chen Xiaodong has been selected as one of the Top 10 winners of the Falling Walls Breakthrough of the Year 2023 in the Engineering & Technology category, prevailing a rigorous review process of over 1000 entries by a distinguished jury.

Prof Chen was selected as a Winner for having developed a universal interface to assemble stretchable devices simply and quickly, effectively overcoming the challenge of fragile connections in such devices. His team developed a universal connector called BIND (biphasic, nano-dispersed interface), which makes the assembly of stretchable devices simple while offering excellent mechanical and electrical performance. This recognition is not new to Prof Chen. In 2021, his team’s pioneering work on plant-based robots revolutionising agriculture and robotics earned him a well-deserved place in the Top 10 Winners of the Engineering & Technology category for the Science Breakthrough of the Year 2021.

Prof Chen's inclusion among the Top 10 Winners positions him as a strong contender for the prestigious title of Science Breakthrough of the Year 2023 in the Engineering & Technology category. This brings him one step closer to presenting his research at the highly anticipated Falling Walls Science Summit 2023.
