Winners of HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition
We are pleased to announce that Mr. Hamzah Bin Kamaruddin, PhD student and Mr. Lu Yu, Research Fellow, the project titled "HydroTech Solutions", has been awarded the Platinum Award (Champion) in the International Student Track category of the HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition, which final round took place in Hong Kong on October 4, 2024.

This year's theme, 'Empower Your Future,' focused on critical areas such as sustainability and healthcare. Participating teams creatively applied innovative technology to address environmental and health challenges. The team had competed against 340 submissions from teams worldwide and distinguished themselves among ten teams from Hong Kong and five international teams.
Highlights of HydroTech Solutions
HydroTech Solutions helps proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer manufacturers achieve 15% higher hydrogen production than industrial standards while reducing costs by incorporating 70% more cost-effective metals in high-performance PEM electrodes. This precisely addresses the pain points faced by players in the green hydrogen production industry: high costs and low hydrogen production.
About the HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Sino Group have long been partners in nurturing the next generation of creative talents, organising the 'HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition’ as a platform for aspiring young entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions. This year, a record-breaking 340 teams from Hong Kong and around the world participated in the competition, with a new ‘International Student Track’ introduced for overseas university students. This initiative fosters collaboration between local and overseas universities, stimulating creative exchanges among global talents. Winners of the Hong Kong competition will compete with the winners from Beijing, Foshan, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen divisions in the Grand Final round later this year, where they are expected to exchange ideas and compete for the Grand prize.
