Fostering bilateral relations among the next generation with NTU’s Mayors' Class

Prof Liu Hong, Tan Lark Sye Chair Professor of Public Policy & Global Affairs and Director at the Nanyang Centre for Public Administration, contributed an article for the commemorative microsite launched by Business China to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Singapore-China relations. In 1992, just two years after the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and China, NTU Singapore was designated as one of China’s first overseas universities to provide executive training programmes for middle and senior ranking Chinese government officials. NTU was certified by China’s State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs as the first overseas training institution in Singapore. Since then, over 17,000 Chinese government officials, middle-level management staff of state-owned enterprises, universities and NGOs have participated in high-end training programmes ranging from two weeks to three months, or a one-year Master’s degree programme in Singapore, he said.
