The 8th TCTF-NTU Advanced Leadership Development Forum was successfully held in NTU

On 8 March 2024, the 8th TCTF-NTU Advanced Leadership Development Forum was successfully held in NTU with the generous support from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation. The significant event also marked the opening ceremony for new cohorts of the Master of Science in Managerial Economics (EMME) and Master in Public Administration (EMPA) programmes.

Themed "Education Transformation and Global Leadership in the Digital Age," the forum gathered leaders and officials from 15 esteemed universities and prominent education departments in China for insightful exchanges and discussions.

Over 40 delegates and around 50 students attended the first physical forum, post-COVID, with prominent figures including Dr Han Jun, Minister Counsellor (Education) of the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, Mr Chew Kwee San, Council Member of TCTF, and key representatives from NCPA including Professor Liu Hong, Associate Vice-President, (International) and NCPA Director (Research & Executive Education), and Associate Professor Wang Jue, Director of NCPA as well as Dr Dai Shiyan and Mr Wang Hang, both Deputy Director of NCPA.

In her welcome address, Assoc Prof Wang Jue expressed gratitude to TCTF for their longstanding support of NCPA's initiatives, including scholarships, educational programs, and cultural exchanges. Minister Counsellor Han Jun lauded NCPA's contributions towards talent cultivation in China and encouraged students to seize their stay in Singapore for a fruitful and fulfilling learning journey ahead.

Prof Liu Hong highlighted the mutual learning between Singapore and China in key innovation areas like data science, artificial intelligence and fintech. He also shared that the newly launched College of Computing and Data Science in NTU, reflects the University’s investment and efforts to nurture a community that stays ahead of the curve in the new era of computing and AI age and to strengthen the interdisciplinary collaboration between computer science and other disciplines.

Concurrently, distinguished keynote speakers; Prof Yang Renshu, President of University of Science and Technology Beijing; Prof Liu Jike, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, and Mr Liu Xuejun, Deputy Director of Jilin Provincial Department of Education shared their insights on educational innovation and transformation in the digital era, detailing their institutions' experiences and strategies in the digitisation of higher education.

In the afternoon session, further discussions centred on the role of education reform in enhancing global competitiveness and the universities' societal responsibilities in talent development. Eminent keynote speakers included Prof Xing Zhanjun, Assistant to the President of Shandong University; Prof Chen Shi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; Prof Feng Jiaxun, Vice President of Guangxi University; Prof Sun Dianming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics; Prof Wang Yongcheng, Vice President of Shenzhen University and Prof Liu Xiaoli, Vice President of Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics. 

The event culminated with a welcome dinner for the delegates where Professor Ling San, Deputy President and Provost of NTU delivered his welcome address and held engaging discussions with the guests.

Sub-forum discussions on 9 March saw university representatives delved deeper into the thematic topics and their visits to Malaysia’s University of Malaya and Xiamen University Malaysia, located in Kuala Lumpur, on 12-13 March furthered the constructive exchange on educational and cultural dynamics between China and Malaysia.
